QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

What do you mean when you say “rustic cabins”?

Good question! First, please know the cabins are old and that means shorter doorways, no air conditioning, creaky floors and doors, cozy beds, tiny bathrooms and no TVs. It also means the windows might be a little drafty (we do our best to fix things like this) and you might share a shower with a spider (it’s rare, but not impossible). The cabins are charming and will hopefully help you unwind by the fire with a good book and appreciate a simpler time. Second, we make NO secret that the cabins are old - if you feel like you might be the kind of person to call us after you check-in and complain about any of the things we mentioned above because maybe you thought we were exaggerating, this is definitely not the right place for you to enjoy a vacation. ; )

Why are your prices so high?

We take a lot of pride in maintaining the integrity of a resort started in 1926. Most of the cabins, with the exception of the biggest, Colonel Bob, were built between 1926 and 1936 and with that comes a lot of maintenance. You likely won’t find old growth scraped cedar ceilings/walls in most places you visit, as well as period fixtures (read small bathrooms with small fixtures). We really try to balance the old and rustic with comfort and charm for your perfect vacation. We also don’t charge a resort fee, a cleaning fee, or a boat rental fee and we provide a bundle of firewood for each night of your stay. We are happy to direct you to a few places less expensive (Quinault River Inn, Lake Quinault Inn or the Rain Forest Village Resort) and a few places more expensive (Lake Quinault Lodge and Kalaloch Cabins).

Where is the firewood located? Great question!

Your first bundle is already in your fireplace ready to be lit. The additional bundles are underneath the back deck of the main house; entrance to under the deck is to the left of the stairs headed up to the main house. The firewood should be visible, but in case it isn’t, the bundles are just to the left once you walk under the deck. Please, please, please don’t wander all the way off the property, next door and take firewood from our lovely neighbors - yes this has happened more times than we’d like to admit.

What time is check-in/check-out?

Check-in is at 4:00 pm; you are more than welcome to call ahead to see if your cabin is ready before that, but you may not be able to get in until 4:00. We have a refrigerator right inside the self-check-in room that you can store any groceries if you do arrive earlier than 4:00 pm and you want to go on a hike or walk down to the lake before check-in. Check-out is at 11:00 am.

Do you have Wi-Fi?

We don’t have Wi-Fi, but most cell phones have a pretty strong signal on the north shore and your phones’ hot spot should work perfectly!

Can I bring my dog?

Historically Lochaerie has had a no dogs policy, because dogs are not allowed on most of the local hiking trails, in order to preserve the pristine ecosystems. And because our 100 year old cabins are especially vulnerable to scratching and chewing. However, we love dogs and understand the special bond that guests share with their pet. So we are now offering a pet-friendly cabin (Angeles) at the resort. This is a special accommodation we’ve made available for guests staying at the Angeles cabin only.

That said, we still discourage bringing your dog because it may limit your experience. Dogs are still not allowed on most hiking trails. And we require that dogs not be left alone at any time - in the cabins, on the grounds or in your car. Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times for the safety of other guests. And we have specially designated areas where dogs can relive themselves. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in ensuring a peaceful and enjoyable experience for all guests at our resort.

Can I bring my own boat / kayak / paddleboard with me?

Yes…with a stipulation. You CAN bring your own boat/kayak/paddleboard, but it MUST be inspected by a certified inspector before you are allowed to put it in the lake. The Amanda Park Mercantile can point you in the right direction for an inspector! Amanda Park Mercantile: (360) 288-2564.

However, Lochaerie Resort has a number of canoes, kayaks and paddleboards for your use while you’re here - included in your stay. We also have an assortment of life jackets, which we encourage all guests to bring with them out on the lake.

What is stocked in each kitchen?

It might be easier to say what isn’t, but we’ll give it the old college try. Each kitchen has a fridge, oven/range, microwave, 4-cup coffee pot (and filters), toaster, plates/bowls, cups/glasses, silverware, various utensils (i.e. spatula, can opener, cork screw, tongs, etc.) various pots/pans and salt & pepper.

What is your cancellation policy?

There are no refunds on deposits; credit will be given towards a future stay with at least 14 days advance notice of cancellation. Credit is valid for one year. Cancellations made inside of 14 days are unable to receive a credit and forego initial deposit.

Do you have a main lodge with rooms for rent?

No, we only have 6 private cabins, each with a kitchen and a bathroom.

Are you open year round?

Can we book the whole resort?
