Happy New Year from Lochaerie Resort

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

Hooray! We survived the great storm of December.
Lochaerie is still standing. But 53 trees had to be cleared from the North Shore Road!

Our new manager Steve Haynes starts February 1st. Cabins will be available from that date forward.

Please call (360) 288-2215.

Less Rain and More Sun at Lochaerie!

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

Spring has officially arrived at Lake Quinault. Skunk cabbage, daffodils, and Indian plum are blooming. Steve Haynes is on board as our new manager. Steve is an experienced fisherman and knows the Penninsula well. He is a wealth of outdoor information for guests.

You’ll find something new in each cabin, such as stairs, curtains, lighting, paint, and artwork. We’ve also been working on the perennial flower beds on the main lawn.

Check your calendar, pick your favorite cabin, and give Steve a call. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Summer Time at Lochaerie

Saturday, July 7th, 2007

Clear blue skies, crystal green water - the weather is great at Lake Quinault! The mornings on the lake are usually still and perfect for a canoe ride to look for otters, king fishers, or nesting eagles. The afternoon breeze comes in from the west and helps keep everything cool and comfortable.

Steve has the hummingbirds lining up at the feeders. The National Park crews continue to clear and improve trails damaged from the harsh winter. Park rangers are leading summer tours to the big cedar and along the Maple Glade Trail. Check out the Quinault Historical Museum on the south shore of the lake. The museum gives a fascinating glimpse into the history of the valley. It’s fun to watch the perch and smelt fishermen on the ocean beaches north of Kalaloch.

The mouth of the upper Quinault River once again has migrated over the winter in our direction, so canoeing to and hiking along the river is once again a new experience.

We finally have dial-up email at Lochaerie! Check your calendar, pick your favorite cabin, and give Steve a call or email him at: 638northshore@reachone.com. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Cozy Autumn Days and Evenings at Lochaerie Resort

Sunday, December 2nd, 2007

It seems so sudden that the days have shortened, leaves have fallen from the maple, alder, cascara, and cottonwood trees. Now squalls are blowing in giving little advance notice. Mushrooms have been plentiful; scads of salmon and steelhead are in the rivers and the lake. It can rain inches now in a day, but here on the North shore the cabins feel so cozy and when the sun does shine we’re warm and bright.

Summer was busy as always, even before the nice surprise article in August’s Sunset magazine which caused the phone to ring almost nonstop!

Canoes and rowboats have been taken to high ground to avoid damage from driftwood and dramatic fluxuations in the lake’s water level.

All cabins now have wood burning fireplace inserts, thus reducing drafts and generating lots of heat while still maintaining the character of the old fireplaces.

It’s a beautiful, peaceful AND dynamic time of year in the rain forest and at the ocean beaches. Come visit us. Check your calendar, pick your favorite cabin and call or email Steve. We look forward to seeing you soon!
